Sabrine and Imen Update

We are very happy to announce that thanks to your generosity, Sabrine succeeded her baccalaureate with a final mark of 15.19

Sabrine is pursuing her dream to become a telecom engineer as she will integrate "L'Institut préparatoire aux études d'ingénieurs de Tunis". Our charity will continue to support her during her first university year.

Imen has been less fortunate than Sabrine, and failed her baccalaureate after the ‘Control’ session. Nonetheless, your donation might have changed something in her destiny. Indeed, half way through this year, Imen's mum, the only person supporting the family, fell terribly ill due to a back injury and had to stop working. As no food was on the table of this deprived family, Imen was asked to quit school. Only your donations allowed her to continue and hopefully overcome this dramatic situation. We wish her all the best for next year.

Charity Dinner 31 May 2008

Hope For Best is organising a charity dinner on Saturday 31st May 2008 in the French restaurant “Gazette”, 79 Riverside Plaza, Chatfield Road, London, SW11 3SE, starting from 8 p.m.

Great oriental live music, lovely food and a lot of fun is awaiting you.

The contribution for attending the event is £65 for couples, £35 for singles and £30 for students. A salient discount is offered for early payments bringing the contribution to 55£ for couples, 30£ for singles and 25£ for students (as this will save us the administration fees).

The contribution pays towards a three course dinner (lovely French cuisine) and the live music.

The small profit margin in the ticket price will go towards “Hope For Best” Charity that provides scholarships to promising and deprived secondary school students in Tunisia.
History

In 15th of July 2007, a founfing member of "Hope For Best" decided to participate to London’s great run and raise money to serve a charity purpose in Tunisia. The total amount raised was 1,000£. The contributors suggested that the money is spent in promoting education in Tunisia. Two secondary school students in Tunisia benefited from the donations which paid for all their educational needs for one academic year.

This marked the birth of “Hope For Best” charity.

Charity Objectives

The main objective of “Hope For Best” is to offer scholarships and support to deprived and promising secondary school students in Tunisia. The scholarship pays toward any expenses related to their educational needs for the academic year.

20% of the annual charity budget also goes towards financing samall education related projects, i.e. School entry kit for deprived students, transport fees, professional training...

Who are we

The charity opens its wings to any "Friend of the Charity" who believes in "Hope For Best" mission and who is willing to help.

"Hope For Best” in action

“Hope For Best” currently finances the education of two girls in Tunisia:

  • Imene: 17 years old from Kelibia. She is at the final year of her secondary education.

  • Sabrine: 17 years old from Tunis. She is also at the final year of her secondary education.

Each sponsored student benefits from the support of an appointed tutor in Tunisia. The role of the tutor is to follow the progress of the student throughout the academic year and ensure help is provided whenever needed.

The below table outlines the cost of sponsoring a school student in Tunisia for 1 academic year:

Selection Process

As much as it is possible, we try to select promising secondary students who demonstrate the potential and the willingness of making it in life.

These students are chosen amongst deprived families. For now, it is the “word of mouth communication” that helps us find potential candidates. As our funds increase, we intend to formalise the selection process. Suggested ideas are:

  • Build al list of secondary schools in Tunisia.

  • Contact head teachers to select the appropriate candidates

"Hope For Best" objectives for 2008

  • Raise a total of 6,000£.

  • Formalise the students selection process.

"Hope For Best" and the Other Charities

"Hope for best" charity recently benefited from a personal generous donation of £ 1,200 from Mr. Fred Packard from the Rank Foundation. In order to encourage this initiative, LMS Charity Foundation decided to match the donation from Mr. Packard and is proud to participate in its first charity project in Tunisia. Two Tunisian students will benefit from a full scholarship that covers two academic years.
